I started trading when my parents told me they were moving to Cyprus.
Back then I knew that money was important but I didn’t realise how important it is to be wealthy in this day and age.
My family spoilt me and I wanted to have the freedom to spoil myself as a young adult!
When I moved to Bondi beach I met a lot of interesting people, some were established and some were not.
I noticed that those that were established usually had a strong support network in their formative years so they didn’t have to worry about paying rent until they established themselves professionally.
I met a lot of people that were living from paycheque to paycheque and they were not fulfilling their potential because they were stuck in survival mode for decades!
That’s why I started trading, I realised that as a successful trader I would have the freedom to work my own hours and live independently.
I would sit at my window at Bondi beach and see people walking home from work with a depressed look on their face, every year they looked more depressed and lethargic than they had the year before.
I saw the same pattern in so many people, when I turned $500 into $2000 in my first week I knew that trading was going to be the solution for me and so many others.
I tested so many different strategies and when I found patterns within the market that were consistent I arranged my day and my activities around these patterns.
I would walk from Bondi to Coogee with a friend and stop at numerous points along the way to place trades, and I quickly realised that I was making more money trading when I was focused on other recreational activities.
It sounds counterintuitive, but once I’d established concrete patterns in my daily routine that coincided with patterns that repeat themselves in the market the two complemented each other.
Now I trade for 1-3 hours a day.
After all these years I’m still trading and although I do have a break sometimes I always come back to it refreshed and excited to keep trading and making money.
It was hard in the beginning because I had no one to show me the ropes, but now it’s easy because I know when the markets are going to be wild and difficult.
This is the biggest issue that derails most new traders.
They don’t know when the markets are difficult, if you don’t know when the markets will be difficult then you’ll never succeed as a trader.
You need to know when they’re difficult and why they’re difficult…!
That is the most important skill that you need to have as a day trader.
One bad day can blow a small account or put a dent in a large account. If you know it’s coming, and you know when and why the market is challenging then you can avoid it and save yourself the hassle.
The lifestyle that I have because I learned to trade is such a blessing and I would not trade it for anything in the world.
I will trade until I’m in my 90s, just like Warren Buffett!
Trading is not something you do to get rich quickly, it’s something you do because you enjoy it and the lifestyle that it gives you.
It can be addictive, but it’s also very rewarding, nothing else has made me that much money in such a short amount of time that consistently.
The time investment that is required of me now that I’ve established myself as a trader is minute, especially when I compare that to the normal 40 hour work week.
I love working from home and go on a lot of holidays and have a lot of staycations, because I can!
I’m grateful to my younger self for choosing to stick with it even though I received a lot of criticism over the years from people that did not share my vision.
Believe in yourself and go after your dreams, that’s what life is for 🙂
