If one person falls off their board, someone will be there to help them back on. 🙂
It’s easier to be a good team player in the ocean than it is to be a good team player in an office
Being a good team player is not as easy as you think. It’s not just about communication, it’s also about reading people and figuring out what makes them tick without them having to communicate with you constantly.
The best managers and team leaders know exactly what each team member needs to be happy and productive without being told. They know when to be harsh and when to be soft.
If you have a high staff turnover it’s challenging, not only because you have to train everyone and teach them, but also because it takes time for people to learn to get along with each other.
The most perfect silence is when there’s no need to speak, no need to explain.
Initially a new recruit may be difficult and unruly, a good team leader will help them to blend in with what everyone else is doing, they don’t only lead by example, they also lead by having reasonable expectations, and by giving people clear and concise instructions, and by displaying consistent behaviour.
Narcissistic behaviour can derail an entire team, if you have 1 narcissist in a team of ten people that’s not such a big deal, but it creates more work for everyone else.
You need a team that can help each other without you telling them to. That care about each other, but you can’t teach people to care about others.
The most important thing to look for when you’re hiring someone is how philanthropic they are.
You can’t teach that.
And everything is built on top of that.
The more they care, the more effort they’ll put into making things work.
If one person is keeping a whole team together then if that person gets sick you’re stuck.
If people are hurt and no one is there to help them they can become cold and indifferent. Some of these people can be saved, some cannot.
So be kind always, because everyone has problems that you know nothing about.
Neuroscientific principles can give you the tools to fix a narcissist, but they have to be willing to open the toolbox.
If someone is habitually selfish there is usually a reason for it, maybe their parents were selfish, unless they are forced to work within a team of compassionate people they may never change.
But working with the wrong people can make them more narcissistic.
There’s a huge grey area.
Most people need to have clearly defined roles within a team and everyone needs to do their part. Some are all rounders, but even that needs to be clear, there can be no confusion. Everyone needs to feel supported and heard.
For a team to be productive they need to feel comfortable around each other, there can be no favouritism. Getting out of the office and getting into nature is essential for office workers that are chained to their desks all day. They have to have fun together so that they can have something to laugh about with their team.
There’s a saying about couples, couples that play together stay together, it’s the same with work mates.
It’s easy to get caught up in office politics, but everyone gossips at times. The key isn’t to be perfect, the key is to recognise that your imperfections make you human, and we all have imperfections.
Just remember that one single thing that you say could make all the difference and change someone’s life forever for the better.
So never give up on people, but always maintain healthy boundaries to protect yourself.
Make someone smile today, it might change their life 🙂
